Unit 1: Paediatric Emergency First Aid
- Role and Responsibilities of the Paediatric First Aider: Understand the duties and legal obligations of a paediatric first aider, including infection control and reporting procedures.
- Assessing an Emergency Situation: Learn how to conduct scene and primary surveys to evaluate the situation and determine appropriate actions.
- Managing Unresponsive Children and Infants: Gain skills in handling unresponsive children and infants, including placing them in the recovery position and performing CPR.
- Choking Management: Learn techniques to assist children and infants who are choking, including recognition and appropriate first aid measures.
- Managing External Bleeding and Shock: Understand how to control bleeding and manage shock in children and infants.
- Dealing with Anaphylaxis: Recognise signs of anaphylaxis and learn how to administer first aid, including the use of adrenaline auto-injectors.
Unit 2: Managing Paediatric Illness and Injury
- Injuries to Bones, Joints, and Muscles: Learn to recognise and provide first aid for suspected fractures, dislocations, strains, and sprains in children and infants.
- Head and Spinal Injuries: Understand how to identify and manage head and spinal injuries in young individuals.
- Eye, Ear, and Nose Conditions: Gain knowledge on handling foreign bodies and injuries affecting the eyes, ears, and nose.
- Chronic Medical Conditions and Sudden Illnesses: Learn to manage conditions such as asthma attacks, diabetic emergencies, meningitis, and febrile convulsions.
- Effects of Extreme Temperatures: Understand how to recognise and treat the effects of extreme heat and cold in children and infants.
- Electric Shock, Burns, and Scalds: Learn appropriate first aid responses to electric shocks, burns, and scalds in young individuals.

Assessment and Certification
The course is assessed through continuous observation of practical skills demonstrated during the training. Upon successful completion, you will receive a Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid certificate, valid for three years. To maintain your qualification, a refresher course is recommended before the certificate expires.
